October is living up to its "Uptober" nickname so far. Thursday brought $102.7 million of net inflows into US spot Bitcoin ETFs on October's first trading day — a sharp reversal after $148.7 million exited on Wednesday — putting the new quarter on firm footing. The two-day swing totals more than $251 million in the positive direction, a reminder of how quickly institutional positioning can turn at quarter boundaries.
The turnaround caps a monster third quarter: the funds drew $6.34 billion of net inflows over Q3, with September alone contributing $2.65 billion, while Bitcoin itself gained 42.71% across the quarter. The arithmetic implies July and August combined for roughly $3.69 billion — a strong pace, but September's acceleration into quarter-end is what made Q3 the best three months of 2026 for the products. Combined net assets now stand at $109.3 billion, with cumulative net inflows of $57.6 billion since launch. Bitcoin was changing hands near $85,900 at the time, up 2.1% on the day, while the Crypto Fear & Greed Index held at 72 — firmly in "Greed" territory.
Why it matters
ETF flows have become Bitcoin's most reliable demand gauge. Sustained inflows mean real spot buying that absorbs selling pressure; when they flip negative for days, rallies tend to stall. A positive start to October matters because Q4 is seasonally Bitcoin's strongest quarter, and fund managers appear to be positioning for it early.
The contrast with Ether is striking: Ether ETFs went the other way: $55.4 million flowed out on Thursday, the third straight day of redemptions, totaling about $118 million. Solana ETFs also bled around $6 million, while XRP ETFs managed a modest $4 million inflow. Capital is clearly favoring Bitcoin over altcoin exposure right now. That rotation is the defining feature of this cycle's mature phase — institutions want regulated Bitcoin exposure, and everything else is fighting for the leftovers.
The scale puts the daily noise in perspective. A $102.7 million day is meaningful, but it is less than 2% of the $6.34 billion Q3 total — the real story is the persistence of the bid across the whole quarter, not any single print. What matters going forward is whether the streak survives macro shocks, starting with Friday's US jobs report.
The derivatives market agrees the setup has improved. After a choppy week that liquidated late longs, perpetual funding rates have cooled — a combination that usually marks the end of an overheated phase rather than the start of a deeper breakdown. And Wall Street is taking notice: Citigroup raised its 12-month Bitcoin target to $113,000 as ETF inflows resumed, betting the institutional bid has further to run.

What to watch
- Whether Friday's US jobs report extends or interrupts the inflow streak — macro surprises move ETF demand fast.
- The Fear & Greed Index: readings deep into greed have often marked short-term tops.
- Ether ETF flows: continued divergence would confirm a Bitcoin-only bid.
- The weekly flow totals: one green day is a start; a green week would confirm the Q4 positioning thesis.
MarketRadar take
The bid is back and it's selective — money wants Bitcoin, not crypto broadly. As long as daily ETF prints stay green, dips should find buyers. The risk is positioning: with greed at 72 and everyone chanting "Uptober," a hot jobs number could shake out late longs. Bullish for Bitcoin, but respect the crowded long.
