Risk-Reward Calculator

What this tool does

The risk-reward ratio compares how much you stand to gain against how much you risk on a trade. A 1:2 ratio means you risk $1 to potentially make $2. Professional traders rarely take trades below 1:1.5, because a good ratio lets you stay profitable even when fewer than half of your trades win.

How to use it

  1. Enter your planned entry price.
  2. Enter your stop-loss price (where you exit if wrong).
  3. Enter your take-profit price (where you exit if right).
  4. Optionally enter your position size to see the dollar risk and reward.
  5. Read the ratio — e.g. 1:2.5 means you make 2.5x what you risk.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good risk-reward ratio?

Most traders look for at least 1:1.5 or 1:2. Below 1:1 you need a very high win rate to stay profitable.

Can the ratio be negative?

No — if your take profit is on the wrong side of your entry relative to the stop loss, the calculator will warn you. A long trade needs the take profit above entry and the stop below it (reversed for shorts).
